Résumé : | This paper uses a qualitative approach to discuss some of the most fundamental questions concerning the reorientation of trade flows of Mediterranean agricultural products in relation to the prospects of the future CAP. The case of Greece is used to identify the specific emerging issues following the completion of the EU's internal market. The new EU's import regime for fruits and vegetable offers better access into the Community's markets. Negative implications are expected for Greek agriculture especially in the fruits and vegetables sector. The reduction of MFN tariff rates will erode trade preferences offered by the EU. However, erosion will affect mainly the trade of countries which benefit from low preferential margins. Under the new world trade organisation regime the EU's Mediterranean agreements should have to adjust to full free trade area agreements. The most important questions arising from the EU's enlargement to the East concern the future shape of the CAP and the distribution of structural funds |
