Résumé : | Forest fires represent a serious issue in the countries of the Mediterranean basin, where every year large areas are severely affected by their effects. The aim of the research was to indicate some alternative ways to the management system in use in Sicily, among which to identify the most suitable one. Two multicriterial techniques were used in combination with each other. Saaty's AHP and Roy's Electre methods, which took into account both the environmental and the socio-economic aspects involved in the problem. By means of the former, weights were assigned to each criterion on the basis of expert judgements, whereas the latter allowed the rank of the alternatives to be built. The presence of private enterprises, although encouraged by financial incentives, taking the place of the regional anti forest fire service in certain areas is the main characteristics of the management system suggested by the anlysis in order to reduce to a minimum the fire hazard in Sicily |
