| Résumé : | The aim of this master thesis is to do a forecast exercise through the elaboration of an adaptation strategy in the region of Korçë, the most important agricultural region in terms of apple production, due to the incorporation of Albania to the European Union Community. The economic performance of agriculture is very important in the country, yet a great number of employees are engaged in this sector, contributing to the national gross domestic product (GDP). Nevertheless, it is still insufficient due to small and fragmented farms, low level of technology and efficiency of factors of production compared with the EU countries. The main priority of Albania is increasing the productivity and competitiveness through the improvement of the production, the market access for farmers and agro-processing business, increasing incomes and consequently the living standards of farmers. The organic agriculture is a great opportunity to achieve this objective creating a more environmental and economical sustainable agricultural sector in the Balkan country. Anticipation studies are very important and necessary to help the decision makers and the politicians to understand how the strategy of an organic production system could affect the performance of the apple farms in Korçë. In the following master thesis, scenarios built in the different apple farm types of Korçë will be tested in a developed GAMS’ bio-economic model. These scenarios are related to the implementation of government subsidy schemes and the farmer behaviour in front the conversion to organic apple crops. |
