Résumé : |
This study investigates the effectiveness of the Tool for Agroecology Performance Evaluation (TAPE) in assessing the multidimensional performance of agroecological systems within family farms in Benin. The TAPE tool was applied across 126 farms in the communes of N'Dali, Tchaourou and Toucountouna to evaluate agroecological transition levels (CAET) and their correlation with sustainability core performance criteria. The outcomes revealed that most farms remain in the early stages of agroecological transition, with larger farms generally scoring higher in agroecological elements of resilience, governance and knowledge-sharing. While TAPE effectively highlights the farms' strengths and weaknesses, the study identified critical challenges, such as the limited use of recycling practices and the continued reliance on agrochemicals. Additionally, the findings show that economic outcomes, such as income and added value, are not directly proportional to agroecological transition levels. In terms of women's empowerment and dietary diversity also remain low across all farms. The research emphasizes the importance of co-creating agroecological knowledge and improving governance
structures to enhance agroecological performance. Overall, the thesis contributes to the understanding of how TAPE can guide sustainable agricultural practices in resource-limited contexts, offering practical recommendations for enhancing the tools application and supporting the transition to sustainable food systems in West Africa. |
