| Résumé : | In the face of expanding environmental and socioeconomic challenges experienced by agriculture in semi-arid and arid zones, systems of governance and policies that influence agroforestry practices play a key role in promoting ecological sustainability, securing resilience, and productive farming systems. This study targets the Chtouka Ait-Baha province, south of Agadir, Morocco where water scarcity, natural resource degradation and climate variability are progressively compromising the sustainability of livelihoods, and where argan-based agroforestry plays a key cultural and ecological role, focusing on the policies and governance shaping its adoption. The methodology follows five main steps: (1) literature and document review to recognize existing policy frameworks and legal tools; (2), stakeholders and institutional mapping (3) interviews with stakeholders; (4) characterization of the socio-economic profile of farmers based on field surveys; and (5) Delphi method approach via workshop to refine findings and build consensus. This integrated approach enables a clear analysis of how policy in Morocco, socio-economic realities and institutional structures act together to shape agroforestry adoption. The study aims to highlight the opportunities and constraints correlated with the integration of agroforestry into argan-based agro-sylvo-pastoral systems. Data collected offers insights into how governance has developed, the socio-economic factors and land tenure systems influencing agroforestry adoption. Outcomes show that water scarcity, high costs, and governance gaps remain the first limits to agroforestry implementation, while local cooperatives and associations are appearing as crucial actors promoting integrated practices. The results emphasize that supportive policies, institutional coordination, stakeholders and farmers engagement are critical factors for scaling up agroforestry, thus supporting rural development and increasing climate resilience in North African arid lands. |
