Résumé : | The present paper introduces rabbit meat situation in Egypt as well as research and development programs to improve production. New Zealand White and California breeds have recently been introduced in view of a more intensive and rational production. The results of a preliminary study on reproductive performance in these recently introduced populations are mentioned (breed effects, parity, doe's weight at mating). Several teams contributed to the Research-Development programs with the aim of improving productivity and production through two main ways: rationalization and assistance for the development of small village farms and use of improved breeds. Two large scale integrated production projects were implemented, a state one (10,000 does, in cooperation with Hungary), and a private one (10,000 to 15,000 does), with the purpose of marketing the meat in urban areas |
