Résumé : |
Because of the different health, socio-economic and environmental impacts linked to household air pollution (HAP), the international organization SNV put in place a behavioral change communication in rural Cambodia at the household level. It aims to change the cooking behavior by raising awareness on HAPs danger and solutions for household members to reduce it. This mainly includes the adoption of clean cook stoves. The goal of this study is thus to describe the current knowledge, practice and attitude towards these topics. Behavioral economics is used to understand the current behavior and how to change them. This study therefore includes a bibliographic research to understand the clean cook stove context and the factors which can influence a persons behavior (worldwide and in the Cambodian context), and a case study which is representative of Cambodian rural areas. Surveys were conducted with 301 main adult cooks from randomly chosen household of two rural Cambodian rural provinces: Siem Reap & Kampong Speu. The results show a high adoption of traditional cooking, low awareness on their exposure to HAP and the current solutions (clean cook stoves and cooking behavior). A minority are willing to adopt clean cook stoves, mainly because of financial, social and infrastructure barriers. This study will work as the baseline of its BCCs evaluation to see whether the campaign had an impact on the studied variables.
