Résumé : | Pistachio tree is considered one of the main fruit species widely cultivated in arid and semi-arid zones of Tunisia. It has a socio-economic and environmental importance. It is mainly cultivated in Gafsa-North region located in south Tunisia regarded as resistant to drought. The objective of this work is to study the pistachio value chain in 'Gafsa-North' region, in order to identify the different chain-links, delimit their roles and understand the interactions between them. This analysis also allows to identify the added values created by each stakeholder and to highlight the different strengths and weaknesses of this chain as well as the opportunities and potential threats. We conducted farmers' survey and interviews with various stakeholders in the sector. A descriptive analysis on farmers and farmlands has been elaborated. Then a mapping about the different actors of the value chain has been defined. Afterward, we calculated the added value upon the sales place and between the actors. SWOT analysis showed that the existing potential for the development of pistachio activity is not valued for the benefit of the region because most of the added value of the product is drained to surrounding big cities due to lack of processing, packaging and marketing units for finished products to nearby major urban cities and people agglomerations where the processing units are concentrated. What's more, the valorization of local pistachios production must firstly go by the improvement of plant culture conditions to obtain an adequate production and of good quality. |
