Résumé : |
The Mediterranean is the scene of numerous geopolitical tensions which are reflected in the agricultural sector, a highly strategic but at the same time fragile sector.
The paper carries out a review of the geopolitics problems and food system challenges that the Mediterranean regions have to face. It highlights the urgency of action to move towards sustainable and resilient food systems in the Mediterranean area. Multiple innovations will be needed until the Mediterranean achieves the most suitable conditions for guaranteeing its food security. The demographic pick will oblige national governments to find solutions able to satisfy the increased food demand and to feed much more people than before. It is necessary to increase South-North and South- South cooperation as drivers for structural growth, offering increased local opportunities as an alternative to economic migration and countries independent policies. |
