Résumé : | Despite increasing water use by other sectors, irrigation remains the worlds largest water consumer. Potential water savings can be achieved through more efficient water application technologies and water management practices. These practices also reduce the negative effects of increased water use on the environment and farm incomes by preserving rivers and groundwater systems. In this report, we present an integrated approach to Agro-hydrological modelling that allows us to assess the potential water savings that can be achieved. In this context, the water agency has commissioned the Chamber of Agriculture of Gard to carry out a project entitled "Irrigation management for a reasoned input as part of water savings in the field" from 2019. The aim of the study is to assess the efficiency and profitability of water resource management in the Alès area. To achieve this objective, a quantitative analysis of the surveys was carried out, followed by the implementation of a bioeconomic model based on mathematical programming methods. This model was applied to 20 farms representative of the region. It takes into account current management practices, relevant farm characteristics and examines farmers' intentions regarding the adoption of new practices, while taking into account the constraints they face. The results demonstrate the importance of implementing practices tailored to the specific needs of each farmer in order to promote efficient water management while respecting their individual preferences. These observations provide valuable insights for efforts to encourage the sustainable use of water resources in the agricultural sector. |
