Résumé : | Addressing the global challenges facing the agricultural and food systems, mainly by climate change. An increase interest is placed in agroecology as being the path towards a transition in the agricultural system to a resilient and sustainable one. North Africa being a region severely affected by climate change, a holistic transition on multiple levels is a must. In order to conduct a transition, the aim of the study is to design a framework to assess the level of adoption of agroecological practices in the region of North Africa. Moreover, in order to better understand the current situation and possibly further propose components that could be tackled in the transition. The framework was a based on the methodology proposed by GTAE (Groupe de travail sur les transitions agroécologiques) and adopted to the context of North Africa. Furthermore, three farms in Luxor, Egypt were selected randomly from a dataset of the cultivation season of the year 2022. After that, several economic, environmental and social indicators were deducted to evaluate the sustainability of the farms. The results showed that the farm with the better level of adoption of agroecology had a better environmental impact but not a better economic and social situation due to several possible reasons. However, an implementation of a more diverse dataset could help to better evaluate the framework, to then serve as an aid to agroecological transitions. |
