Résumé : | The French beekeeping sector is facing challenges such as honey fraud, economic pressures from cheaper imported honey and the high costs of hive maintenance and disease management. Focusing on the Occitanie region, France's leading honey-producing area, this research assesses 18 beekeepers' perceptions of a proposed traceability system using hive scales, DNA testing and blockchain technology to improve consumer confidence and secure beekeepers' incomes. The results indicate a general willingness among beekeepers to adopt the proposed traceability system, although they are concerned about implementation costs and the limited perception of fraud on price. Despite consumer skepticism about paying more for traceable honey, beekeepers recognize the benefits of marketing and product differentiation. The study highlights the need for financial support and addresses the broader issues facing the beekeeping sector. This research contributes to the debate on sustainability in the French beekeeping sector by examining beekeepers' attitudes towards new technologies and the conditions necessary for their implementation. Future research should take into account the perspectives of other stakeholders to better understand the needs of the sector. |
