Résumé : | Food production must increase considerably in the upcoming years in order to keep up with the growing population. This is however threatened by the lasting impact of industrial agriculture. As these impacts have become known, global opinion is shifting towards agroecology to solve these problems. PA tools are designed to optimize inputs and yields and are therefore emerging as a method to achieve a sustainable agroecological food system. France launched the Ecophyto action plan to accelerate the transition to agroecology. Despite the measures created, there has not been a widespread adoption of PA tools yet. According to research, this is due to several factors, including age since it impacts technological literacy. DSS applications are a good solution to this problem: they are intuitive and help farmers manage their farms. xFM is one of those apps, providing model recommendations and VRA maps. This paper focused on French cereal farmers to inspect if xFM allows for an efficient agroecological transition from a socio-economic stance. Trials showed VRA to be as effective as Flat rate application in terms of disease control and yields. However, when considering the cost of a subscription, cost savings were not high enough to lead to a low BEP. A qualitative survey conducted with farmers showed that most of them, regardless of age, found xFM and PA tools to be easy to use although they judged the app as expensive and not intuitive. Additionally, the apps technical features: VRA and interoperability, proved to be useful for their agroecological transition. |
