Résumé : | The debate on the rural/urban dichotomy results in various definitions of what is rural or not. The necessity to define rurality is an important one for shaping development policies that have long term consequences for both rural and urban areas. On the other hand, the concept of the rural/urban dichotomy has found much criticism from various researchers. For these reasons the rural/urban problem is reviewed from an interdisciplinary perspective. Specifically the Sociologic, Geographic and Economic Traditions are presented and shown how they can contribute to the development of rural areas |
