CONTEXT

RestPoll (Restoring Pollinator habitats across European agricultural landscapes based on multi-actor participatory approaches) is a project under the Horizon Europe programme. RestPoll aims to position Europe as a global leader and set the future agenda for pollinator restoration worldwide. The transdisciplinary RestPoll consortium will develop, test, evaluate and refine cross-sectoral pollinator restoration approaches to conserve biodiversity and to benefit nature and society. RestPoll will co-design measures with stakeholders from local field to farm, landscape and to European scales, from governments to individual land managers, in agricultural landscapes that are dominated by intensively managed crops and grasslands to restore wild pollinator diversity and their vital pollination services. Our holistic approach, informed by cutting-edge transdisciplinary research, will integrate stakeholders and actors at multiple levels as well as natural and social science disciplines to engage in participatory planning and development of new business models. Learning outcomes will be disseminated by regional to European multi-actor partners and collaborators, which will ensure impact beyond the end of the project.

ACTIVITIES AND TASKS

• Data analysis and mapping pollinators dynamics at the landscape;
• Estimating pollination services supply and demand at the landscape;
• Living-Lab organization and management;
• Provide regular short progress reports on the advancement of the WPs and contributions to the corresponding project deliverables.

REQUIREMENTS

The ER candidate must meet the following requirements:

• Master 2 in Geography;
• Excellent knowledge of data analysis and GIS;
• Knowledge on pollination services dynamics;
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English;
• Knowledge of French and/or Greek will be a plus.

PERSONAL SKILLS REQUIRED

• Excellent organizational skills, ability to establish and maintain lasting and constructive formal relationships;
• Dynamism, reactivity and autonomy;
• Excellent skills of writing and synthesis (work plans, technical reports and other acts and management, ordinary correspondence, notes, messages, summary sheets);
• Good teamwork abilities, particularly in a multicultural and multi-disciplinary context;
• Ability to propose solutions to problems and critical issues that might arise during the project.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

• Contract duration: fixed term contract of 12 months’ renewable twice (up to 36 months);
• Salary: according to experience;
• Location: Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Montpellier (Route de Mende, Montpellier, France) with occasional travels in different partner countries.
• This call for applications is compatible with the completion of a doctoral thesis. However, the proposed contract does not correspond to a doctoral contract.
• This job offer is subject to Grant Agreement to be signed shortly.

NATAE Fostering agroecology transition in North Africa through multi-actor evaluation and networking

Contexte :

NATAE (Fostering agroecology transition in North Africa through multi-actor, evaluation, and networking) est un projet de recherche et d’innovation dans le cadre du programme Horizon Europe financé par la Commission européenne et la mise en réseau) est un projet de recherche et d’innovation dans le cadre du programme Horizon Europe financé par l’Union européenne. NATAE se déroulera sur quatre ans (décembre 2022-novembre 2026) et aura pour objectif de favoriser l’adoption de stratégies d’agroécologie fondées sur la science, adaptées au contexte local et coconçues en Afrique du Nord. Pour ce faire, il est prévu de créer une base de référence complète et quantitative sur l’agroécologie, de fournir une compréhension partagée, des mesures de performance multidimensionnelles et des analyses du potentiel de l’agroécologie pour répondre à la demande des consommateurs sur le marché.

Principales missions 

Le rôle de l’expert ou des experts sera de fournir une expertise approfondie en matière d’acceptabilité sociale à différents stades du projet NATAE, en assurant la coordination et l’achèvement du point T3.3, sous la direction du CIHEAM de l’IAMM.
Il sera demandé à l’expert (aux experts) de :
1. Élaborer une méthodologie sur mesure pour évaluer l’acceptabilité sociale dans le cadre du projet NATAE.
2. Préparer des outils de collecte de données détaillés, tels que des entretiens ou des lignes directrices pour les groupes de discussion.
3. Tester et mettre en œuvre la recherche, en mettant l’accent sur l’acceptabilité sociale, dans un ou deux des “Living Labs” susmentionnés dans le cadre du projet NATAE.

4. Affiner la méthodologie et les outils de collecte de données sur la base de la première phase de mise en œuvre phase de mise en œuvre.

– assurer la qualité et la cohérence des contributions pertinentes aux produits livrables du projet, tels qu’ils sont énumérés dans la section suivante “Produits livrables”.
7. Revoir les analyses sur l’acceptabilité sociale développées dans les zones du Living Lab.
8. Produire les analyses transversales nécessaires aux livrables énumérés dans la section ci-dessous.

Les deux évènements auront lieu à Montpellier.

L’atelier de réflexion du lundi 11 septembre est conduit en partenariat avec le CTFD et le pôle foncier sur l’objectif de neutralité, l’ODD 15.3 en matière de dégradation des terres au Sahel et les questions foncières qui se posent dans sa mise en œuvre. L’objet de la journée est de questionner la signification et la portée d’approches et instruments de la neutralité qui se mettent en place dans la région soudano-sahélienne, et ce du point de vue des questions socio-foncières.

Vous êtes bienvenus à contribuer à cet échange scientifique visant à croiser les regards critiques issus de différentes disciplines ou expériences.

NATAE Fostering agroecology transition in North Africa through multi-actor evaluation and networking

Contexte : 
NATAE (Fostering agroecology transition in North Africa through multi-actor evaluation and networking) is an awarded project under the Horizon Europe programme funded by the European
Commission. Set in motion in December 2022, NATAE will run for the next four years with aim to foster the adoption of science-based, locally-tailored and co-designed agroecology strategies in
North Africa. This is planned by creating a comprehensive and quantitative baseline on agroecology, providing a shared understanding, multidimensional performance measures, and analyses of agroecology potential for meeting consumers demand on the market.
Coordinated by the CIHEAM Montpellier, NATAE gathers 22 partners including research and education institutions from around the Mediterranean, international organisations, specialized NGOs and local associations with the participation of the private sector. The project will rely on participatory approaches to be used in 6 North African countries to identify optimal combinations of agroecological practices, discuss their overall performance, and develop a replicable methodology to design evidence-based and locally-tailored strategies for agroecology transitions […]. 

Main tasks
The main tasks expected under this contract are:
1. Collect and conduct an analysis of the existing sectoral public policies in Egypt from an
agroecological transition perspective according to the methodology and analysis grid
developed by the CIHEAM-IAMM internal lead expert under T6.1;
2. Participate in the discussion workshops planned under T6.1 regarding the findings on Egypt
(3 are planned so far);
3. Contribute to the formulation and review of the policy report on Egypt that will be included
in the production of the final deliverable. A final deliverable report is to be submitted by 31
May 2024, mainly consolidated and refined by the T6.1 leader team with the contribution of
the task participants and public policy experts. A draft will be elaborated for April 2024, based
on inputs from partners to be collected throughout the overall process and organised
accordingly to the defined methodology.
4. Identify and engage stakeholders and experts including participation in the project task
workshops and contribution to workshops that will lead to the creation of effective policy
options.
5. Evaluate the feasibility and alignment of proposed policy options with local realities and goals
of agroecological transition.
Duration: The overall execution of these tasks is estimated at 50 to 55 working days (40 to 45 days
dedicated for T6.1).
Location: Egypt resident preferably; remote work is possible if needed.

Main Qualifications:
– A PhD degree or equivalent, in Agro-economy specialized agri-policy analysis in Egypt or the North African region;
– At least 7 to 10 years of prior research and/or applied experience in the field of multi-sectoral policy analysis with focus on rural and agricultural development in Egypt ;
– Excellent oral and written communication skills in English (the official language of the project) and Arabic (local language required for the collection and analysis of documentation). French knowledge is a plus (preferred communication language for most
of the administrative tasks).
