PREMIÈRE VISITE DE LA PRÉSIDENTE DU CONSEIL D’ADMINISTRATION ET DU SECRÉTAIRE DU CIHEAM AU CIHEAM MONTPELLIER

Le CIHEAM Montpellier a accueilli, jeudi 21 septembre 2023, la Présidente du Conseil d’administration CIHEAM, Madame Frida Krifca, et le Secrétaire Général du CIHEAM  M. Teodoro Miano, qui ont pris leurs fonctions respectivement en avril et mars 2023.

Au cours d’une journée dense, la Présidente et le Secrétaire général ont pu rencontrer les personnels et les étudiant·e·s, et prendre connaissance des activités de l’Institut de Montpellier dans les domaines de la formation, de la recherche et de la coopération, au service d’une même ambition, la transition vers des systèmes agri-alimentaires durables et résilients en Méditerranée.

Les présentations ont plus particulièrement mis en valeur les activités conduites en Albanie tant en matière d’appui au système universitaire (Projet SmartAl) que de facilitation des mobilités des étudiant·e·s et enseignant·e·s.

Parmi les présentations de projets de coopération et de recherche, Emirjona et Elda, toutes deux doctorantes albanaises au sein du Lames, ont également pu présenter leurs travaux en abordant les enjeux du capital social dans les zones rurales ou les perspectives de développement des indications géographiques dans les zones rurales d’Albanie.

La Présidente et le Secrétaire général ont exprimé tour à tour tout leur intérêt pour les activités conduites, et leur attachement au maintien d’une dynamique « corporate » qui valorise les complémentarités entre les Instituts du CIHEAM.

Visite du Ministre de l’Agriculture du Liban

Le CIHEAM Montpellier a reçu pendant 2 jours son Excellence, Abbas Hajj Hassan, Ministre de l’Agriculture du Liban

Le CIHEAM Montpellier a reçu pendant 2 jours son Excellence, Abbas Hajj Hassan, ministre de l’agriculture du Liban et l’un des ses conseillers, M. Salem Darwich.

Cette visite de travail a été consacrée à l’approfondissement de plusieurs sujets de coopération entre l’Institut agronomique méditerranéen de Montpellier et le ministère de l’agriculture, en particulier l’extension et les développements possibles du projet SupMed.

Destiné à soutenir des stratégies collectives et contextualisées en faveur d’une agriculture résiliente et durable, ce projet a comme principal objectif de proposer, d’évaluer ex-ante et de mettre en œuvre, en concertation avec les acteurs de terrain, des stratégies d’adaptation au changement climatique et aux incertitudes socio-économiques. Il est mené en parallèle dans la plaine de la Bekaa au Liban et dans le gouvernorat de Louxor en Egypte. Dans le cadre de ce projet, au printemps dernier, SE le ministre Abbas Hajj Hassan avait inauguré une pépinière de plants d’oliviers à Hermel.
SE le ministre et le CIHEAM ont également évoqué le développement de la filière Blé tendre au Liban, projet auquel le Programme alimentaire mondial pourrait être également associé.

 

La visite a également permis à SE le ministre de rencontrer les étudiant·e·s libanais présents à Montpellier, dans le cadre du Master DATEM ou de la conduite d’un doctorat.

Le Master DATEM est une collaboration originale et forte entre le CIHEAM Montpellier et la Faculté d’Agronomie de l’Université libanaise de Beyrouth, qui permet chaque année à 8 étudiant·e·s libanais·e·s d’être diplômé·e·s des deux institutions. D’autres étudiant·e·s libanais·e·s sont également accueilli·e·s dans les autres Masters dispensés à l’Institut. Quelques un·e·s poursuivent leur cursus dans le cadre d’un doctorat à la faveur d’une contribution à des projets de recherche et de coopération menés par le CIHEAM Montpellier.

NATAE Fostering agroecology transition in North Africa through multi-actor evaluation and networking

CONTEXT

NATAE (Fostering Agro-ecological transition in North Africa through multi-actor design, evaluation and networking) is a project under the Horizon Europe programme. Based on a multi-actor and interdisciplinary approach, this four-year project will generate new insights for assessing practices that are inspired by agro-ecology in a multidimensional way and at multiple scales (from production systems to territory and value chains). The aims are to identify, evaluate and eventually promote the best observed and experimented combinations of practices inspired by agro-ecology in North Africa (i), and to set up a Mediterranean agro-ecological network for knowledge exchanges and advocacy at regional level (ii). The approach is based on Multi-Actor Labs (MALs), as territories that are anchored in specific agro-ecosystems of North Africa.  

ACTIVITIES AND TASKS

  • Data analysis and building of the farm-typology in the Egyptian Living-Lab;
  • Prepare the database for the modelling chain;
  • Calibrate the model in the Egyptian Living-Lab;
  • Provide regular short progress reports on the advancement of the Living Lab in Egypt and contributions to the corresponding project deliverables.

REQUIREMENTS

The ER candidate must meet the following requirements:

  • Master 2 in Economics or Agronomy;
  • Excellent knowledge of data analysis;
  • Knowledge on farm-typology and bio-economic modelling;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.

PERSONAL SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to establish and maintain lasting and constructive formal relationships;
  • Dynamism, reactivity and autonomy;
  • Excellent skills of writing and synthesis (work plans, technical reports and other acts and management, ordinary correspondence, notes, messages, summary sheets);
  • Good teamwork abilities, particularly in a multicultural and multi-disciplinary context;
  • Ability to propose solutions to problems and critical issues that might arise during the project.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

  • Contract duration: fixed term contract of 12 months’ renewable twice (up to 36 months);
  • Full-time;
  • Salary: according to experience;
  • Location: Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Montpellier (Route de Mende, Montpellier, France) with occasional travels in different partner countries.
  • This call for applications is compatible with the completion of a doctoral thesis. However, the proposed contract does not correspond to a doctoral contract.

CONTEXT

RestPoll (Restoring Pollinator habitats across European agricultural landscapes based on multi-actor participatory approaches) is a project under the Horizon Europe programme. RestPoll aims to position Europe as a global leader and set the future agenda for pollinator restoration worldwide. The transdisciplinary RestPoll consortium will develop, test, evaluate and refine cross-sectoral pollinator restoration approaches to conserve biodiversity and to benefit nature and society. RestPoll will co-design measures with stakeholders from local field to farm, landscape and to European scales, from governments to individual land managers, in agricultural landscapes that are dominated by intensively managed crops and grasslands to restore wild pollinator diversity and their vital pollination services. Our holistic approach, informed by cutting-edge transdisciplinary research, will integrate stakeholders and actors at multiple levels as well as natural and social science disciplines to engage in participatory planning and development of new business models. Learning outcomes will be disseminated by regional to European multi-actor partners and collaborators, which will ensure impact beyond the end of the project.

  • Data analysis and mapping pollinators dynamics at the landscape;
  • Estimating pollination services supply and demand at the landscape;
  • Living-Lab organization and management;
  • Provide regular short progress reports on the advancement of the WPs and contributions to the corresponding project deliverables.

The ER candidate must meet the following requirements:

  • Master 2 in Geography;
  • Excellent knowledge of data analysis and GIS;
  • Knowledge on pollination services dynamics;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English;
  • Knowledge of French and/or Greek will be a plus.

PERSONAL SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to establish and maintain lasting and constructive formal relationships;
