The Regional Rural Development Standing Working Group (SWG) of the Balkans, an intergovernmental organization bringing together a group of countries applying* for membership of the European Union, has a long-standing relationship with the CIHEAM and its institutes. The SWG regularly holds one of its 3 Annual General Meetings in one of these institutes. Initially scheduled for 2020 but postponed due to COVID, it was therefore from 15 to 18 April that CIHEAM Montpellier hosted the 59th General Assembly of the SWG, making it the 1st General Assembly of the year 2024. CIHEAM Montpellier was able to present its training, research, and development activities, and to discuss with General Assembly participants opportunities for cooperation in the various areas covered by the working groups led by the SWG General Secretariat in the field of agriculture and rural development, to strengthen links between the Mediterranean countries and the Balkans.
