Presentation:
Mediterranean forests are unique, determined by a climate that is totally original in the world, with a hot, dry season around summer and a cold, more or less wet season around winter. They may sometimes consist of nothing more than scrubland or maquis shrubs, but it is they that provide us with our daily natural surroundings and so many amenities that we now call systemic services. The forests of the Mediterranean region are one of the world's hot spots for biological diversity. They structure the areas in which the lives of our contemporaries are played out and developed, without them always realising their importance, their multiple values and their complexity, their dynamics, the services they provide and the need for their management.
