As part of its cooperation activities with Lebanon, CIHEAM Montpellier hosted His Excellency Mr. Al Hajj Hassan Abbas, Minister of Agriculture of Lebanon from June 6 to 9, 2022. A program of meetings with regional institutions and agrifood structures in Occitanie has been implemented by CIHEAM Montpellier to support the Lebanese Ministry of Agriculture in its search for solutions to the current food crisis in the country.

The AGREEMed project is recruiting a Postdoctoral Fellow – Full-time contract, renewable up to 2 years – Deadline for Submission: 28th of August 2022.
AGREEMed (Innovative Aquifers Governance for Resilient Water Management and Sustainable Ecosystems in Stressed Mediterranean Agricultural Areas) is a newly awarded project under the PRIMA S2 programme. The main objective of the AGREEMed project is “to improve the capacities of water actors in developing integrated aquifer management plans and demonstrating such development in strategic pilot areas (watersheds) in the Mediterranean region: Souss-Massa in Morocco, Hammamet in Tunisia, and Jordan Valley in Jordan”. The targeted aquifer management plans will contribute to safeguarding groundwater resources, supporting socio-economic growth, and preserving ecosystems in the context of global changes. Transferring scientific knowledge, exchanging successful institutional and technological innovations between partners as well as developing pilot area’s specific solutions are the key pillars of AGREEMed project.
CIHEAM-IAMM is the leader of a WP4 aiming at the definition of the conceptual, methodological, and operational requirements as well as designing a “Household Farm-Watershed-Nexus Platform” which will serve as a DST to assist in making irrigated farming systems in the three pilot areas more sustainable.
The Postdoctoral Fellow (PF) will play a central role in the WP4 and will be a full member of the project team. Working side-by-side with the Personal Investigator, the PF be responsible for the creation of the Farm-Watershed Nexus platform by mainly the development use of a bio-economic model. Moreover, the PF will coordinate the exchanges within the consortium partners and facilitate the acquirement of the necessary data. He will attain all the necessary meetings and workshops of the project in order to guarantee the well execution of the WP4 Tasks.

From July 17 to 23, 2022 in Pindos (Greece), as part of the Erasmus+ RUR’UP Project and its “Sustainable development of peripheral rural areas” training, students from CIHEAM Montpellier joined a group of more than 25 participants from 7 Universities and Higher Education Centers in Europe (Ireland, Croatia, Bulgaria, Finland, Romania, France and Greece) to participate in an international summer school in the Pindos region, Greece.
For 7 days, students from different backgrounds worked in international teams and combined classroom and field activities. They had the opportunity to exchange with local actors and put into practice the knowledge acquired during the RUR’UP online training, which took place between March and June 2022.
After a first moment of “icebreaker” where the participants met face-to-face with their online course comrades, it was time for an intense week of training and practice. More concretely, the RUR’UP Summer School has enabled our students to:
The RUR’UP training and Summer School marked a turning point and gave meaning to innovation in training and education, both for the scientific content and the methodological approach, or for the certification of acquired knowledge :
A focus on agricultural systems with high natural and territorial value and peripheral rural areas in Europe;
Pedagogical tools and innovative evaluation methods: modules based on concrete case studies, implementation of active pedagogies, peer and inter-university evaluation system, discussion forums with local actors, etc.

The feedback from the students and all the participants was very positive, they were very satisfied to have taken part in this major event of the RUR’UP project: a great success that needs to be repeated. This meeting is jointly organized by the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and CIHEAM Zaragoza, as well as CIHEAM Montpellier as coordinator of the MED-Amin network.
It will bring together decision-makers from the Mediterranean countries of CIHEAM and relevant international organisations, as well as representatives of the main cereal market operators, to draw the way forward for a strengthened MED-Amin early warning system, to share updates on cereal markets and market forecasts in particular related to the conflict in Ukraine, to present the MED-Amin 2021-2022 activities and to discuss future activities in a context of tense agricultural markets and uncertain food security.
A session will be dedicated to mechanisms to strengthen information systems and cooperation in the Mediterranean. High-level representatives will provide institutional and strategic insights into the current and anticipated information needs of Mediterranean countries to prepare, monitor and operationalize food crisis and emergency management strategies.
In 2022, the CIHEAM celebrates its 60th anniversary with the aim of projecting the organization into the Mediterranean of tomorrow, responding to new emerging challenges, and mobilizing young people.
This special year is the ideal time to reward innovations carried out by young people and give them greater visibility.

On June 28, 2022, in collaboration with the MUSE Support Center for Pedagogical Innovations (CSIP), CIHEAM Montpellier offered as part of its Rur’Up project a training workshop “Mobilizing your research results in teaching – Invitation to active pedagogies”.
Public : teachers, researchers or doctoral students
This workshop aimed to experience transferable approaches in teaching or coaching contexts, focused on the need to promote research results. Like the active pedagogies it presented, the workshop was scripted by a series of innovative activities – including games – in which the participants got involved with great interest and great pleasure as well.
Over a period of 3 hours, participants had the opportunity to test several active learning techniques, and apply them to a course scenario designed collaboratively.
Ideas well shaken up and nourished, everyone left after having forged relationships with colleagues thanks to “icebreakers” and a shared meal.
Feedback from participants has been very positive and this test session will certainly give way to new ideas during the July summer school scheduled by the Rur’Up program, and why not in the upcoming program of workshops offered by the CSIP.
