On February 10–11, 2026, National Focal Points from MED-Amin member countries, international partners, and representatives of the Greek grain sector gathered in Thessaloniki for the 12th MED-Amin Plenary Meeting, hosted by the Hellenic Ministry of Rural Development and Food and its Station of Cereal Control and Standardization.
Beyond discussions on the current global, Mediterranean, and national market situations, the meeting focused on three key priorities:
Deploying a Mediterranean grain market dashboard and strengthening cereal balance sheet statistics
Improving early production forecasts, particularly by reinforcing statistical information and developing robust quantitative methodologies
Enhancing data sharing on grain quality, trade, and regulatory frameworks
Over two days, exchanges were rich, constructive, and forward-looking. Participants shared expertise, aligned approaches, and identified concrete initiatives to improve methodologies, strengthen statistics, and advance collaboration through dedicated working groups.
The MED-Amin Secretariat extends its warmest thanks to the Hellenic Ministry of Rural Development and Food for its outstanding hosting, and to all member countries, partners, academics, and experts whose commitment and valuable contributions made this meeting particularly successful and impactful. The event also marked the handover of the MED-Amin Network Presidency to Greece, opening a new chapter for our cooperation.
Together, we move forward to strengthen transparency, knowledge, and resilience across Mediterranean grain markets.

𝐎𝐧 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟖-𝟗, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓, high-level representatives from MED-Amin countries and key international partners met in Cairo for the 𝟐𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐄𝐃-𝐀𝐦𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐜 𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠, kindly hosted by the Agricultural Research Center – Egypt (ARC).
Discussions covered a broad and critical agenda, from recent grain market developments and national priorities, to concrete steps to strengthen preparedness and rapid-response mechanisms, tailored to regional specificities and national capabilities. Member countries reaffirmed the MED-Amin guidelines, and gave a clear mandate to advance a regional dashboard (including grain-quality information), strengthen public-private market information exchanges, and prepare pilot initiatives for quantitative harvest forecasting. The creation of thematic working groups was also endorsed to move these priorities forward.
As underlined by the MED-Amin Presidency (Albania): “Across all sessions, one message was consistent: the Mediterranean region needs stronger coordination, more timely data, and shared tools to anticipate shocks and protect our food systems”.
The MED-Amin Secretariat warmly thanks the ARC and the Egyptian partners for hosting and facilitating this meeting. It also extends its sincere appreciation to member country representatives, partners (AMIS – Agriculture Market Information System, International Grains Council, European Commission Joint Research Centre & DG AGRI) and speakers (Eastern Africa Grain Council, North Africa Grain Council, The World Bank) for their valuable contributions to the success of this event.
