We are pleased to announce the upcoming SAM–Mediterranean Food Systems cross-cutting seminar of MoISA – 18th edition, which will focus on “Forms and strategies of adaptation of food system stakeholders in the Mediterranean, in response to contemporary geopolitical, economic, and climatic tensions.” This webinar will take place on May 22, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. (UTC+2/CET).
Registration is free but mandatory by email to Ms. Isabelle Ferrier (IAMM) before May 15, 2026: ferrier@iamm.fr
Learn about pollinators, meet the teams behind RestPoll, Butterfly, and Propoll Soil, get up close with fascinating pollinators, and enjoy our activity stations, all over coffee, snacks, and a honey tasting from local beekeepers! 🐝
Within the framework of the Master’s course “Sustainable Farming and Pollinator Habitat Restoration for Biodiversity and Food Security” (SPHERE) organized by University of Freiburg (ALU-FR) and CIHEAM-IAMM, and in alignment with the objectives of the Horizon Europe projects RESTPOLL and BUTTERFLY, a study trip and joint workshop in Freiburg im Breisgau (Germany) and surrounding region was organized for students from Master MIDAS (CIHEAM-IAMM) and students from ALU-FR from the 24th to the 27th March 2026. This activity contributes to strengthening the link between teaching, research, and Living Lab activities while reinforcing the cross-project learning dynamics between RESTPOLL and BUTTERFLY projects on sharing thematical issues of pollinator-supporting practices and biodiversity-friendly farming systems.
The students were accompanied and guided by experts from RESTPOLL and BUTTERFLY projects team (Henning Nottebrock and Amibeth Thompson from ALU-FR; Georgios Kleftodimos and Amélie Bourceret from CIHEAM-IAMM). During the study trip and workshop, students had the opportunity to: visit Wild Bee Garden (NABU) & bee show with Felix Fornoff (Assistant professor at University of Freiburg) for observations and learning about pollinator-friendly farming practices; develop and present the posters and policy briefs in front of members from the Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development. This was also a great networking event for researchers and students from both institutions and projects.
From 5 to 7 May, the Scientific Conference of the NATAE project is taking place at CIHEAM Bari, gathering researchers and project partners around one common question: how can agroecology become a concrete driver of sustainable transformation across the region? Funded by the European Union and coordinated by CIHEAM Montpellier, NATAE – Fostering Agroecology Transition in North Africa through multi-actor, evaluation and networking builds bridges between science, communities, policy makers and practitioners, turning shared knowledge into practical solutions for more resilient food systems. At CIHEAM Bari, these days are a space for dialogue, evidence and future planning. Partners are reviewing progress achieved so far while shaping the final implementation phase of the project. At the same time, experiences from the field are taking centre stage. Living Labs and Replication Labs from Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Mauritania, Egypt and South Africa are presenting how agroecological approaches can improve resource efficiency, strengthen resilience to climate and market pressures, and generate fairer opportunities across value chains and rural communities. One of the key legacies of the project will be the NATAE Guidebook: a shared knowledge tool designed to transform lessons learned, tested methodologies and scientific results into recommendations for future policies, research and action.Because sustainable change does not happen in isolation: it grows where territories, institutions and people work together.
Following a highly successful initial collaboration with the Marcelle&Mohammed association (Mutapha Tabaa’s artist residency in May–June 2025), CIHEAM Montpellier will participate in the YSFESTIVAL organised by the association in September 2026. The Institute will host ‘off-site’ screenings of some of the short films in competition at its premises. CIHEAM Montpellier hopes this will enable its students, a significant proportion of whom are Algerian, to discover the films that will be screened in Saint-Jean-du-Gard. It will also be an opportunity to invite local partners and to raise the profile of Algerian film production.
We are glad to invite you to attend the lecture on “The Mediterranean diet: 30 years of fascinating research with new challenges ahead,” which aims to explore the main advances achieved and the challenges that lie ahead in the study of this dietary pattern.
The lecture, organised by Ciheam Zaragoza will be delivered by one of the world’s leading experts in the field: Miguel Ángel Martínez-González, Professor of Public Health at the University of Navarra and Adjunct Professor of Nutrition at Harvard University.
