On Tuesday, April 22, 2025, CIHEAM Montpellier, Fair Trade Lebanon, and Action contre la Faim, together with the Agence Française de Développement, presented the ‘ARADINA’ project to the new Ministers of Agriculture, Mr. Nizar HANI, and Environment, Ms. Tamara ELZEIN. The project aims to support Lebanon in its transition to a more sustainable and resilient form of agriculture, one that is more remunerative for farming families.
The two ministers welcomed the project, which will be carried out in close collaboration between the two ministries. The objectives will be achieved through a combination of action on agricultural production systems and methods (CIHEAM Montpellier, project coordinator), specific added value in fair trade channels (Fair Trade Lebanon), and awareness-raising among consumers and society (Action contre la Faim).
In addition to training activities, the €7M budget (AFD funds) will be used to finance activities designed to improve access to new inputs and collective means of production and processing, as well as the marketing and promotion of agricultural products. The main beneficiaries of the project will be farmers, cooperatives, and small and medium-sized enterprises. The project will start in the next few months, in Akkar and Bekaa, and will run for 4 years.
