SupMed project: Seminar for sharing experience on the technical, organisational and political levers and obstacles to promoting agroecology in the Mediterranean region

Posted on December 19, 2024

Under the patronage of the Ministries of Agriculture of Lebanon, Egypt and Greece, and organised in partnership with ARC Egypt, this meeting, which took place on 17 and 18 December 2024 in Cairo, aimed to share the results of the SupMed project and other initiatives with local stakeholders, researchers and political decision-makers from various northern and southern Mediterranean countries. The event brought together the Ministers of Agriculture of Egypt, Greece and Lebanon with a view to issuing a joint declaration announcing the promotion of agroecology within their respective ministries and explicitly making agroecology a priority for future policies. More than 320 farmers and around a hundred decision-makers and local players were involved in the co-construction of these strategies, which focus on the implementation of agroecological measures. SupMed is a cooperation project funded by the FGEF for a period of 4 years. The project concerns two study areas: the Bekaa plain in Lebanon and the governorate of Luxor in Egypt.
